MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A little girl is fighting for her life at Le Bonheur after being shot several times at a Whitehaven apartment complex.
At last report, the three year old girl was in extremely critical condition in the ICU.
A woman told Memphis Police she was driving in the South Point apartments in the 1400 block of Dewees Street around 10:30 Sunday night when bullets rang out.
Her daughter was shot several times.
The woman told police a man in his early to mid 20’s, wearing a navy hoodie flagged her down and started talking to her and another woman.
The mother said she saw the man pull out a handgun, put her car in reverse and that is when the man opened fire.
Police said there were multiple bullet holes in the front passenger window and rear passenger window.
Neighbors who heard the shots are heartbroken an innocent child was hurt.
“I’m tired of it. Me, as an African American man, I’m tired of seeing this type of ignorance happening,” said Eligah Sledge.
“Since I’ve been here since October of last year there than break-ins crime. They shoot all the time,” he added.
The Memphis Police Department’s Crime Mapping shows at least 32 crimes have been reported in and around this complex over the last month including 3 aggravated assaults, 2 robberies and 3 drug violations.
