A former Upstate police officer is facing multiple charges in connection with incidents involving a girl alleged to have happened May 2012 to May 2015, according to a release from the State Law Enforcement Division.
Adam Kyle Snelgrove, 31, was arrested Monday and charged with criminal solicitation of a minor and misconduct in office. Snelgrove was a Fountain Inn police officer at the time of the alleged crimes.
The Fountain Inn Police Department requested the SLED investigation into the allegations. Police Chief Keith Morton said Snelgrove was allowed to resign in May 2015 to avoid termination the day after the department was made aware of the accusations. Snelgrove was with the department six or seven years, Morton said.
Warrants say Snelgrove committed “criminal sexual conduct with a minor, criminal solicitation of a minor and had sexual relations in his city-issued patrol car while on duty.” The warrants say Snelgrove also tried to coerce or entice the girl, who was 15 at the time, into sexual activity on other occasions, including at least one time in the parking lot at an Upstate fun park.
The sex charges are felonies with penalties of up to 10 years in prison. The misconduct in office charge has a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
Snelgrove was being held at the Greenville County Detention Center.
