Hey gang. Catching up on some backed up show notes to get this week started. We have voter intimidation. We have some riffing on Black conservatives. Attempted research on #Goodcops and a little more. I’ll drop the links right here. <figure>

“I was able to reiterate to him multiple times that he’s a hero. So at least he heard that multiple times,” said Flood, who wants to ensure everyone knows Salazar did a good thing by stepping in to save the woman.
The five other times a mass extinction has occurred over the past 450 million years, natural disasters were to blame. But now, human activity is killing mammal species.
In a study published Monday in the journal PNAS, scientists from Aarhus University in Denmark calculated how fast extinctions are happening, and how long it would take for evolution to bring Earth back to the level of biodiversity it currently has.
The scientists concluded that in a best-case scenario, nature will need 3-5 million years to get back to the level of biodiversity we have on Earth today. Returning to the state Earth’s animal kingdom was in before modern humans evolved would take 5-7 million years.

The court ruled 5-4 to uphold a state court of appeals ruling that a statute that allows 16- and 17-year-olds to be sentenced to life without parole violated the state’s ban on cruel punishment.
“We hold that sentencing juvenile offenders to life without parole or early release constitutes cruel punishment and, therefore, is unconstitutional,” Justice Susan Owens wrote in the Supreme Court’s majority opinion.
2 Broke Girls co-creator Whitney Cummings has teamed with Empireco-creator Lee Daniels for a timely half-hour comedy, which is in development at Amazon. The untitled project, co-created and co-written by Cummings and Daniels and starring Cummings, hails from Fox 21 TV Studios and Amazon Studios.
The comedy revolves around the staff of the ombudsman’s office at a college that navigates PC culture and the #metoo climate. The lead character, played by Cummings, must reconcile the dissonance between different generations of feminism, and the struggle to reconcile our primal desires, and socially constructed identities with current ethical obligations regarding race, class and gender.

Leaders of the Oath Keepers, the National Socialist Movement, the Ku Klux Klan, and the American Freedom Party told Politico that they intend to monitor polling places “informally” or on behalf of the Trump campaign.
The Trump campaign – which recently earned the endorsement of the KKK’s official newspaper – has galvanised supporters from the white supremacist fringes of US politics. Mr Trump himself urged his supporters to watch the polls in “certain areas” of Pennsylvania.
Last week, a senior Trump official told Bloomberg Businessweek that the campaign had initiated a “voter suppression” to discourage black voters, white liberals, and young women from voting.
