The former Chicago Heights Park District police chief, who had been facing two separate felony cases, beat one case and charges were dropped in the other, court records show.

Jose Maldonado, 34, began the year facing two felony counts of aggravated fleeing in a 2016 DUI case and one felony count of false personation for an incident last August when Midlothian police claimed he presented himself as the Chicago Heights Park District police chief despite having been stripped of the title following the DUI arrest.

A judge found Maldonado not guilty of the false personation charges in January and prosecutors dropped all charges in the 2016 DUI case last month, court records show.

State’s attorney spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said Wednesday that the charges against Maldonado were dropped because prosecutors did not believe they could secure a conviction.
