#JimCrowJoe Biden said last month to “shoot protesters in the leg instead of the heart.” That, my friends, is not “harm reduction”. The only positive way forward is to #CrashTheDNC.

So the Empire is getting bolder and and dropping all pretenses of “rights” and a due process and is disappearing people for political purposes just like we do in other countries. I can’t say I’m surprised because this is the force a capitalist, colonial system must use to protect its resources, beneficiaries, and center of power. The bright side is that it’s the very interior of the US that is now becoming unstable and fighting back, and not just those on margins on the receiving end of our drones and political coups.

“Federal law enforcement officers have been using unmarked vehicles to drive around downtown Portland and detain protesters since at least July 14,” OPB reports.

“Personal accounts and multiple videos posted online show the officers driving up to people, detaining individuals with no explanation of why they are being arrested, and driving off.”

President Trump has sent an unknown number of federal agents to Portland, Oregon, ostensibly to project federal property amid weeks of protests against racism and police brutality. But federal officers “are also detaining people on Portland streets who aren’t near federal property, nor is i…

This is where the exploitation of workers has gotten us in the US! Yes, our Covid-19 response is the fault of capitalism.

  • Sarah Hair Olson Many people are bringing up the enormous and very obvious dangers of opening schools. And that is awesome. I dont want schools to gather either.

But unless we are going to provide families with a basic income that covers their actual living expenses so they can stay home with their children and not work from home, then schools or some other form of childcare have to open.

A lot of people wanting schools closed but want businesses open. We can’t have both.

    • Chelsey Sprengeler Sarah Hair Olson I don’t blame working class people doing this one bit. This wretched country gives them no options but to send their kids to school as a form of childcare because they have to either work or die. It’s not their fault.

Yes, basic income ensured for all until it’s safe is what is necessary, and this is antithetical to capitalism.

“Wealth, or net worth, is the value of all assets including your home, retirement, inheritance, valuables, property, savings and income minus the debt owed against those assets. According to federal data, the median wealth for white families is around $141,900, compared to Hispanics at about $13,700 and blacks at about $11,000. The median net worth for non-immigrant African-American households in Boston is only $8, according to a 2015 report by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.” The racial wealth gap is directly tied to American slavery and Indigenous genocide.

“Longtime Avondale resident Esteban Burgoa has lent support to the people who live in the neighborhood encampments for decades.

Burgoa helped set up a water system at one of the sites so residents can take showers. He drops off presents at Christmas and brings a turkey around Thanksgiving. He sometimes drops off cash.

“These are the most vulnerable people in our society and they’re destroying what little they have,” Burgoa said. “Whoever this person is, it’s a dangerous person. … They could kill somebody.”

Burgoa experienced homelessness about a decade ago after serving in the Iraq War so he can relate to the struggles of people living in the encampments.

“I’ve been through this. It’s nothing that happens out of the blue. It’s based on life experiences,”
