Nicki Minaj faced criticism for refusing to attend the Met Gala because she hasn’t had a Covid vaccine

Nicki Minaj has been hit with a huge backlash on social media after she revealed she refused to get vaccinated to attend the Met Gala.

The rapper said she caught Covid while preparing for the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, as she discussed why she wouldn’t be attending the prestigious fashion event in New York on Monday.

And she surprised fans by admitting that she had decided against getting jabbed, and even began peddling conspiracy theories about the vaccines.

Guests who attended the Met Gala were required to be fully vaccinated, and Minaj told fans on Twitter that she wasn’t prepared to make that compromise.

“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one,” she wrote.

Minaj, who is mum to an 11-month old son with husband Kenneth Petty, then said she’d caught Covid while gearing up for the MTV VMAs.

“I was prepping for vmas then i shot a video & guess who got COVID? Do u know what it is not to be able to kiss or hold your tiny baby for over a week? A baby who is only used to his mama?” the Pound the Alarm hitmaker fired.

The 38-year-old also claimed that her friend, fellow rapper Drake, was double vaccinated and caught Covid.

“Drake had just told me he got covid w|THE VACCINE tho so chile,” she tweeted.

“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” she wrote.

Minaj went on to state that she wouldn’t discourage anyone from getting the vaccine, but said she just needed to do her own research before being comfortable with having the jab.

“A lot of countries won’t let ppl work w/o the vaccine. I’d def recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families,” she replied to one follower who said they had to get the vaccine for work.

Minaj then said she would most likely get the jab in the future in order to go on tour, or to travel.

“I’m sure I’ll b vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc,” she added.

Minaj posted a poll on Twitter, as she asked what vaccine her followers were taking.

But after receiving further backlash, she fired back at her critics, and said she wasn’t “scared” about the response her controversial views would receive.

“You have been tweeting about me for an hour. You not #Tide yet? Mad I’m my own person? Mad the internet can’t scare me away?

“It’s always someone who looks like you. Polls are very much a part of research. Real experiences, Open dialogue, etc. Go put on your red clown tingz,” she wrote.

A Twitter representative later told reporter Donie O’Sullivan that Minaj’s tweets “don’t break Twitter’s COVID-19 misinformation rules”, despite her spreading misinformation about alleged side effects.

Her comments come as US President Joe Biden criticised the 80 million unvaccinated Americans, and announced new vaccine requirements.

Impotence is not one of the side effects currently listed for any of the Covid vaccines.

Last night, the American hitmaker sparked backlash after she revealed she had refused to get vaccinated to attend the Met Gala.

She further shocked fans by peddling conspiracy theories about the vaccine, later sharing a bizarre story about her “cousin’s friend” allegedly having a reaction to the vaccine.

Later today, England’s Chief Medical Officer blasted anti-vaxxers who “should be ashamed” in a powerful response to her evidence-free “myth” about the jab.

The hitmaker, who has 22.6million followers on Twitter, went on to share a short clip of the moment as well as Boris Johnson’s remarks afterwards.

The prime minister had waded into the row, saying: “I’m not as familiar with the works of Nicki Minaj as I probably should be, but I’m familiar with Nikki Kanani, superstar GP of Bexley who has appeared many times before you, who will tell you that vaccines are wonderful and everybody should get them.

“So I prefer to listen to Nikki Kanani.”

Nicki bizarrely responded to Johnson’s comments and tweeted: “I love him even tho I guess this was a diss? The accent ugh! Yassss boo!!!”

Kuenssberg retweeted her comment and wrote: “2021 everyone …”

The hitmaker was unimpressed and snarked back: “Yes 2021 when jack a**es hang on to my every tweet but can’t decipher sarcasm & humor, and can’t read. Go away dumbo”.

She went on to share an odd voice note as she imitated a British accent as she said: “Yes, hello Prime Minister Boris! It’s Nicki Minaj! I was just calling you to tell you I thought you were so amazing on the news this morning and I’m actually British!

“I was born there, I went to university there, I went to Oxford. I went to school with Margaret Thatcher and she told me so many nice things about you! I’d love to send you a portfolio of my work, since you don’t know much about me.
